In a distant universe, the Sun King Livius Orvinus Ifrikia conquered the world in three years and currently rules over the world. In exchange for leaving the Rain Dukedom alone, a princess of the dukedom must marry the Sun King. Nike Remercier, the fourth princess with the power to call the rain, sets forth to the Sun Kingdom. When she reaches her new home, she discovers that the Sun King is a child and it turns out he has alternative motives for wanting to marry a princess of the Rain Dukedom.
Livius Orvinus Ifrikia grew up as the son of a king and a peasant, not respected by other nobles in the kingdom. This didn’t affect him much because he was very close with his mother. When the king and his mother died, Livius was left alone. He believed that the world was an unfair, dark place so instead of grieving, he took the throne and decided to conquer the world. To say the least, if he couldn’t get what he wanted he took it by force. He gives off the air of being spoiled and aggressive, which he is, but he is also extremely intelligent and hardworking. Nike Remercier grew up in a loving family, but she didn’t have a cushy life. Royalty from the Rain Dukedom can call the rain by singing, but Nike had trouble. She worked hard to be able to call the rain. Her close relationship with the environment lets her find the beauty in the world. She is extremely stubborn and independent.
In the beginning of the series, Nike and Livius clash. This is mainly due to their different outlooks on the world (Nike = beautiful, Livius = dark). However Livius decides to keep her around because she’s interesting. That is to say her personality and actions towards him are quite different between from other female royalty. Together they face many challenges.
This anime is quite short, measuring in at only 12 episodes, however even with the limited amount of time, the characters and their relationships develop extremely well. The challenges that they face and the general flow of the series is very smooth. In fact, any longer and I think they would have just ruined a good show. (Although, I would love to watch more!) Also, with Nike’s ability to call the rain, there is a lot of singing and surprisingly, it is pretty good. (I actually got caught singing it around). Anyway, as the story progresses, you can’t help to feel for Livius and root him and Nike on. This anime series deserves an 8 out of 10.
